This is a public art project I worked on during Spring 2019. Titled, "Koti ja sen ihmiset" (Home And Its People), this work was made for Municipality of Tuusula to celebrate Tuusula's 375 year anniversary. Among the materials used in this work are scrap metal from a farm located in Tuusula, asphalt crumbs from local roadwork, and Tuusula Lake common reed.
In terms of colour, I wanted to use the combination of earthly colours with pure white and ultramarine. I did so to have a sense of earthly meeting with divinity. This can also be seen in composition where chaos meets symmetry and a line. As Tuusula is the town where I grew up, I wanted this painting to depict a memory of a place which was both an inspiration and a seedbed for me, while also having a strong enough on its own to be understood by the locals.
The painting is currently exhibited in the upper floor of the town library, from where it will be moved some place better once the large scale renovations of Tuusula's public buildings are done.
